With over 34 stores opened in Singapore over a span of 8 years, Char Grill Bar, a chain of eateries serving affordable Western Cuisine, must be doing something right. We made a visit to the one at Serangoon North Avenue 1 to see (and taste) for ourselves the secret behind the success in less than a decade.
Unless you’ve been living under a cave, you would most probably have heard of Aston’s before. Char Grill Bar is very similar to Aston’s, where each main comes with two sides, and are much more affordable than dining at a Western restaurant.
Here are three of our favourite dishes at Char Grill Bar:
1. Golden Salted Egg
Of all the food trends we inherited from 2016, salted egg anything seems the most resilient and versatile. This crafty combination of a chicken cutlet sloshed with a special homemade concoction of thick, gooey salted egg yolk sauce, is one of the best take on salted egg variations I’ve tried this year. The sauce is slightly spicy and piquant, and very appetising, especially when eaten piping hot!
2. Smoked Duck Salad
We started our meal with the Smoked Duck Salad, which was very appetising largely thanks to the homemade sesame dressing. The dressing was slightly sour, and I loved how they sprinkled sesame seed into the salad to add plenty of crunch with every bite. The smoked duck stole was superbly well marinated and cooked, with the ideal fat-to-meat ratio.
The Carnivore is one of Char Grill Bar’s best seller, and for good reason. For all you meat lovers out there, the Carnivore platter comes with chicken, lamb, beef, and duck meat. The meat were all very flavourful and well-prepared, and as someone who dislikes lean meat in and of itself, I was very pleased that all the meat slices came with just the right amount of accompanying fats. ?
