Taan

Since it opened more than 2 years ago, Taan is probably still the first and only casual dining restaurant on the little red dot that offers more than 50 skewers and signature tastes from across the region (Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and local). 50 leh!

Apart from getting to sample flavours from all over Asia, the prices and ambience at Taan is pretty awesome as well.

With an interior that bears a close resemblance to that of an izakaya tavern, Taan is a wonderful place to chill at after a long day of work or school. Here are some of our recommendations:

King Oyster Mushroom

All charcoal-grilled to perfection, the skewers and grills are undoubtably Taan’s signatures. The King Oyster mushroom, grilled to perfection with their homemade Korean sauce, was very flavourful and a delightful start to our super satisfying meal.

Fresh Grilled Oysters topped with Minced Garlic

The oysters were fresh and succulent. The minced leek, onion, and garlic sprinkled generously on top added a multitude of flavours, and we love the vermicelli and sauce. Best downed in one mouth!

Kirin Frozen Beer Slushie

Don’t leave Taan without trying their Kirin beer, available in a wide range of fruity flavours. The foam on top, which is made from the beer itself in-house, helps to keep the beer cold for up to thirty minutes. Go ahead and chat your hearts out! The beer will wait. ?

If you’re curious, this video will show you how the beer is made! Pretty amazing wethinks.

My personal favourite was the cranberry Kirin. It was saccharine without being cloyingly sweet, and reminds me of a Slurpee concoction I used to imbibe years ago. Now, where did all those slurpees disappear to? #7-Eleven #BringBackTheSlurpee

The Bugis area (especially Liang Seah Street) is no stranger to authentic eateries, but my brief two hours spent at the wonderfully quirky Taan has convinced me that it can hold its own. The food was honest and down to earth, the offering was diverse, the atmosphere convivial and unpretentious. Best of all, the prices are very reasonable.
